Abstract
This thesis narrates the beginning to end process of a series of projects. These projects involved supporting the vision of the artist, which best defines the whole of technical theater: collaboration. The thesis is composed of three chapters that show my process of understanding by analyzing the myriad aspects of technical directing. Chapter One, A Brief History of Technical Theater and Design, explores the relationship of technical theater to the artistic creation of the production. Chapter Two, Observation of Interactions between the Scenic Designer and the Technical Director, analyzes the relationship of the Technical Director to the rest of the creative team, specifically the Technical Director and the Scenic Designer. Chapter Three, The Process: Notes on the Practical Work of the Thesis explains in detail my process of working on the performances. This, in conjunction with my documentation of practical work, creates what is now my thesis.
