Abstract
These stories contemplate the themes of femininity, identity, and alienation through a largely experimental lens. Throughout my writing process, I have drawn upon a variety of authors’ works — genre-bending, line-blurring, thematically groundbreaking essays, novels, prose poems, and story collections — and although I would not dare pretend my stories approach the level of these brilliant artists in either form or creativity, nor have I concerned myself with topics one would consider particularly daring in 2019, I hope to have captured a similar spirit of fluidity in my collection. There are many ways to tell a story, and furthermore, there are many stories that cannot be most effectively told through old, comfortable frameworks. It is the duty of the writer to stay attuned to the needs of their narratives, and to not allow the limitations with which they are familiar to dissuade them from twisting, stretching, tearing their words until they find the position in which the soul of the story becomes audible.
