Abstract/Artist's Statement
In this project, I translate Eric Romand’s first novel, Mon pere, ma mere, et Sheila, from French to English. The book is autobiographical and written in the form of vignettes that shine light onto moments in Romand’s life. Romand addresses growing up gay in the 1960s-80s in France, in a time when no one really talked about gayness. He adores the French singer Sheila, and most of the book focuses on his relationship with her and the members of his family. I also include an introduction, written in French, where I talk about Romand’s life, discuss various aspects of the book, and speak on the process of translation.
