Abstract/Artist's Statement
Senior Project submitted to The Division of Languages and Literature of Bard College.
This project is a selection of chapters and excerpts from Part I of a fantastical novel that has existed in my imagination for a few years and is finally being brought to fruition. The novel follows an eighteen year old boy named Ansel Burnett and his contemporaries Michelle Payson and Felix Santos as they enter a prestigious Institute for warriors and attempt to apprehend a powerful emerging criminal before she enacts war.
Blurb: For as long as he could remember, Ansel Burnett dreamt of becoming a Guardian, one of the great warriors and defenders of the nation and its civilians. But there are few professions in the world more difficult to achieve than the acclaimed combatant, and Ansel’s doubt at his ability to serve grows upon his acceptance to the Institute of Bellalux, the most prestigious Guardian training school in the country. It doesn’t help that throughout the nation, tensions between the Sorcerers and the Common have been escalating and professional Guardians have started disappearing. Ansel begins to have nightmares of the strange and frightening happenings, and between classes and training, he, alongside new friends Felix Santos and Michelle Page, come to discover that both the disappearances and his dreams might be revealing a danger far more monumental than any of them could have prepared for.
