Abstract/Artist's Statement

This project is a culmination of four years of intensive Russian language study. It is a compilation of the original children’s poems of Daniil Ivanovich Kharms. Originally in Russian, these poems have been translated into English for a greater audience to experience. As a true writer of the “last Soviet avant-garde” Daniil Kharms sought to push boundaries and question the construction of society, language, and reality in his mastery of all genres of stories and poems. Few of his children’s poems have ever been translated into English and this project was designed to expand the conception of Russian literature to the West and for Kharms’ comedy, tragedy, and overall absurdity to be enjoyed by adult and child alike.
