Abstract/Artist's Statement
Modern epigenetic research has brought to the foreground an observable gene-environment interaction. A parallel dynamic interaction is hypothesized in Freud’s theory of the causation of neurosis. With this exciting new era of research comes the opportunity for points of integration between psychoanalysis and epigenetics to be established. An integrated theory of psychopathology may propel psychoanalysis to the foreground of modern and rigorous scientific evaluation. Implications of such a novel theory include better understanding and treatment of psychiatric disorders.
