Abstract/Artist's Statement
For three years I have been creating the collection of the nonexistent local history museum of Barrytown, NY, my hometown since 2008. I have amassed historical material, artifacts, documents, maps and photographs, both authentic and imagined. In the process I have uncovered several troves of actual historical material, dozens of stories of murders, disappearances, accidental deaths, the headquarters of a global cult, influential artists, authors and poets of all stripes, a fading aristocracy, an extinct industry, a visit by Picasso-- all this in an ungoverned hamlet of under 200 people. Most of the stories are entirely true.
