Abstract/Artist's Statement
What is the legitimacy of the project of being an artist? What can we make of the project of destroying the functional for the non-functional-yet-hopefully-beautiful? How can an artist reassure herself that she is not useless? What is the implication of uselessness? What is the implication of use? How does the duration of an artwork measure on criteria like use, productivity or efficiency, reward or payoff, pleasure, provocativity? Will we expend effort though knowing a negative outcome? Doesn’t Works is a dual exhibition held both at the Bard Exhibition Space in Red Hook, NY and online at www.doesntworks.net.
