Abstract
What is the role of universities and student activism in the struggle for voting rights and access? How do the issues of civil rights and young people’s voting rights intersect? What role is played by Historically Black Universities and Colleges (HBCUs)? This case study examines the history of Tuskegee University in Alabama and its long role in the struggle for civil rights and voting rights. The case is a part of a larger project on student voting rights that focuses on the history of four institutions: Tuskegee University, Prairie View A&M University, North Carolina A&T State University, and Bard College.
