Description
Pete Mauney recalls "Bard never knowingly being on [his] radar," yet he graduated from Bard with both a B.A. and an M.F.A. in photography. He remembers resisting his father, an Episcopalian priest, who encouraged him to attend "this quirky place" for its Episcopalian connection, while being interested in vivid tales of "some crazy place" from his friend--before realizing that both were describing Bard. He talks about studying film at NYU for two years before working in the New York film business as a lighting director; transferring to Bard when out of work; relishing the challenge of critical thinking that was expected at Bard; being an older transfer student; failing Art Foundations; currently working for Bard's Photography Department; Bard's evolution over the years; Bard band photography; raising a Bardian family in the Hudson Valley.

"From having had a relatively mixed experience at Bard originally when I was a student I've ended up with a... long ongoing relationship with Bard as an employee...I've really enjoyed it."
