Abstract
“point blank” is a collection of essays, illustrations, artistic projects, and a dance performance about the political implications of silence. How can the unknown, the uncertain, and the silent be explored as radical possibilities of connection, being, and questioning? This thesis poses questions about the functional limitations of the known and the ordered through engagement with various texts, performances, and several specific historical events. How might one turn to the uncertain and the unknown as opportunities for political listening, connection, and communication? In addition to the written component, this thesis includes a dance performance, also titled “point blank,” which was performed in Spring 2013 and which explores the themes of silence as ghosts.
