Abstract

This thesis explores the design of a double chair intended to foster social interaction and engagement in everyday environments. Through the use of woodworking and welding techniques, the project utilizes Wackywood (a highly flexible plywood) to achieve complex curvatures vital to the design. The resulting form is suited for both domestic and public spaces, aiming to create opportunities for shared experiences. Psychological theories related to human behavior and interaction are explored and integrated into the design process to support the hypothesis that intentional design structures can encourage meaningful engagement. The work highlights the potential of furniture to influence social dynamics and promote connection in daily life
