Abstract
In this document, I have taken one of the most celebrated works of modern theatre, the musical Hamilton, and created a dramaturgical study of how the writer Lin Manuel Miranda translated the source material, the biography, Alexander Hamilton, by Ron Chernow, into a work of performance art. I present a dramaturgical analysis of each song in which I examine the historical material related to the song and how the song functions in the overall piece. Following the song analyses, I also examine the extraordinary fan culture that has sprung up around the musical.
