Abstract/Artist's Statement

The aim of this project is to examine the influence Georgian nationalism, including its traditions, culture, and history, on Soviet architecture from the country's Sovietization in the early 20th century until the dissolution of the Soviet Union. By exploring the decorative and symbolic program of this architecture, the project seeks to understand how it was used to exert influence on Georgians, who ultimately severed ties with the Soviet Union in 1991.
