Artsist Statement
Distant Daydreams is an original project all written, produced and recorded by me. Distant Daydreams is more than just an album; it is an experience, a journey, a story , and an outpouring of various emotions such as anger, happiness, love, temptation, jealousy and so much more. I like to think of this project as a summer love letter and final farewell to a friend who saved my life during the pandemic. I found myself caught up in a chaotic love affair, entangled in what I thought was my “Happily ever after”, but my perception of love and everything I wanted this person to be was only a “Distant Daydream. Distant Daydreams details certain events that occurred during this time in my life and truly is a snapshot of what goes on inside my mind. This 7 song project starts with a heartfelt introduction “T-Shirt” which describes the toxic love affair and emotional whirlwind love often encapsulates us in because love is blind and bliss. This particular song is a song of self reflection as well as revelation. “ I wait for you a quarter after two, but there is no use , I wait for you that's all I ever do, but I’m not your muse”
Certain songs like “ With a Kiss”, “Kill You”, and “ Goodbyes” are all songs that tell stories about things that took place during this relationship some have a little fabrication for dramatic purposes but again all of these songs are real life experiences. The songs “Boy” and “Eden” are what I consider to be “jingles” because they are catchy, repetitive and songs that anyone can vibe to no matter your age. These songs have positive messages that are meant to illuminate the joy that is found when falling in love with someone. Throughout the entire project a listener may notice or be intrigued by the religious themes and aspects of some of the pieces ,which is done on purpose because I am partially religious due to my upbringing . It is my belief that all great gifts come from God and are meant to be shared with the world before we leave this earth. Whether it be singing, dancing, acting, we cannot take anything with us once we leave so why not give it all away as well as pay homage to the creator who gave it to you.
On May 13th I will be performing these songs and more on the balcony of Blum. I am going to open the show with an unreleased song to build up the anticipation and to let the audience know what to expect next from me and my music. Next I will continue the show in album order and perform each song the way I would if the entire world were watching. I have even incorporated choreography and crowd participation. My performance will be a party and this will be something that everyone will feel as if they were involved in. I always want my music to speak for itself and I always want to be relatable because that is what makes music meaningful. I get emotional thinking about my final performance because it is the last impression I will leave here at Bard and my last impression as a music student. I am grateful for my experience here as it has and will continue to shape me into a multifaceted person and artist.
If someone were to find my music thirty years from now and decided to listen to it one thing I would want them to recognize and one thing I feel as if I mastered is originality. Staying true to yourself , having faith , and courage takes you more places in life than anything else and that is exactly what I hope I have embodied and I hope other people notice once they have heard this project.
