Abstract/Artist's Statement
Flowers have played a significant role in both Western and Eastern culture. As a result, flower images can be found within works of literature from both areas of the world. While flowers have traditionally been observed for their beauty, I observe them for the emotions they provoke. In this senior project, I argue that floral images are and the emotions they evoke are essential to the broader themes of the texts in Virgil's Aeneid, Ovid's Metamorphoses, The Song of Roland, and The Tales of Heike.
