Senior Project Synopsis
Throughout the brainstorming of putting together my senior concerts, I simply wanted to add various genres of music that would help define me as a musician and composer. While focusing on Jazz as a main genre, I also wanted to add genres such as Gospel, R&B, and Pop. My concentration of performance is in both singing and the playing of the electric bass. In both my concerts, I put together a set list that would display these categories of music. In my first concert, “So What”, a famous jazz composition by Marcus Miller, was my first selection. Leading on, I added a gospel song entitled “I Just Can't Give Up” which was a duet. “Walking in the Rain” came next as it was a composition of mine. “Fallin”, a slowed down R&B feel followed next. “How Does it Feel” another famous R&B song, followed. Last but not least, the concert concluded with my singing of “Stand by Me.”
For my second concert, my goal was to add a blues piece to my repertoire. Beginning my second concert was “Lonnie's Lament”, a jazzy funk piece.“Yeyo” a ritual R&B song followed as it included a group of singers. “Midnight Motion”, a composition of my own followed. Next was a tribute to Michael Jackson, as I performed “I Want You Back.”After, “A Blues in C Major” followed to add more improvisation to the concert. To conclude the concert, my arrangement and combination of famous songs “Didn't Cha Know” and “That Thing” ended the concert with a lively bang. Putting together this repertoire of songs was truly an incredible experience to attain and I was truly grateful throughout every step of it.
