Abstract/Artist's Statement
La Fiesta Popular in Latin America depicts historical and cultural aspects of society. Corpus Christi in Alangasi is a religious ritual in the Ecuadorian Andean region that unifies pre-hispanic religious forms with those of Catholicism. This project takes a look at the introduction of Catholicism in Latin America and religious indoctrination in Incan societies in order to examine the role of performance in Corpus Christi. I seek to discuss the meanings behind the performance and symbols used during the festival of Corpus Christi that depict the idea of syncretism in shaping a collective identity.
