Abstract/Artist's Statement
An examination of fairies and their role in English literature, in particular their relationship with nature, wilderness, and the unknown, as well as with their respective human protagonists. In particular this essay discusses the role fairies play in the narrative as the catalyst of movement on the part of the human protagonist away from the civilised world, both in a figurative and a literal sense.
