Abstract/Artist's Statement
Nadia Boulanger was one of the 20th century concert music's most significant individuals. In Chapter One, she is presented as a talented and hardworking musician/composer, despite being a woman in a man's world. Chapter Two shows how her teaching was the foundation of American Concert Music as we know it today, and Chapter Three discusses the ways in which women after Boulanger have gained access to the public field of composition over the course of the 20th century.
