Abstract/Artist's Statement
My project examines the nature of present experience: i.e. the immediate experience we have of things that is not mediated by memory. Three different approaches are examined: that present experience happens in a moment and can be produced instantaneously by brain states; that present experience is temporally extended and therefore produced by a series of brain states; and finally that the original distinction between present experience and past experience is illusory.
