Abstract

This thesis consists of two parts, one visual and the other textual. For the first section I have created a series of ostentatious paintings concerning the animal subject as a protagonist in our consumer culture. The result was a solo exhibition titled zooccoco by phat glitz, which illustrated animal protagonists in surreal environments packaged as a spectacle. In the written component I have three subsections that explore the ontology of the human and non-human polarities in my own paintings and the paintings of animalière Rosa Bonheur and contemporary practicing artist Maria Pishvanaova. The written part can be considered three essays that emerge from a political position of eco-feminism.
