Abstract

This script is an adaptation of a prior idea I had for my thesis project: a documentary about the school system. When building the ideas for the documentary, I would often articulate when asked that my goal was always rooted in attempting to “simply understand the real cause of what we all see, the school system failing.” I was often warned of the size of the matter at hand—even that it may be “too ambitious” for a single project. And admittedly, with the COVID-19 pandemic, the reality of making the film has proven itself to be too great a task to take on during my undergraduate degree. I’ve instead decided to take it on in the coming years after I graduate. Nonetheless I felt I was abandoning an important story to tell, and I decided to transition into writing a screenplay- a skill I had solely developed at Simon’s Rock. So, I put in a great deal of effort to adapt the more lofty ideas I kept coming back to in the documentary into the new medium my thesis was transitioning into.
