Abstract
This written document is in support of my thesis exhibition titled My Nudes 2k18: femininity and obscenity. The exhibition included my own nude self-portraits that work to subvert the sexist tropes traditionally upheld in representations of nude female bodies and comment on the systemic control of their public representation through forced censorship on social media platforms. The essays included in this thesis accompany the exhibition through expanded discussions of censorship and the obscenity of the female body, self-portraiture and nudity on social media, and the inherently political nature of contemporary artwork produced by female identifying artists.
