Abstract/Artist's Statement

Paroxysm is a sudden outburst, and the word itself is often relegated to the medical realm. These outbursts present in each photograph emerge from the corridors of history, often lit by stale fluorescent overheads. So the archive is also at play; tales of emigration, of war, and of everyday moments of passion, only gaining significance once they move into the past. The echoes of the past in the present are swirling all around us, and these photographs serve to document those echoes in relation to myself and my late great grandfather, who grew up in a different age, but not completely unlike our own.
