Abstract/Artist's Statement
This project is about feminist and womanist perspectives on the female breast. Chapter one explores a feminist history of breast related political movements from the 1970s to the present. Chapter two details the similarities and differences between two current prominent topless activist groups, Free the Nipple and Femen. Chapter three is based around ethnographic research. Eleven women were asked about their relationships to their breasts, three of the interviews were featured in the chapter. The interviews are placed into a productive dialogue with one another and with feminist history and current breast related feminist movements around the world.
