Abstract/Artist's Statement

Cyclometalated Pt compounds were formed through C-H activation or C-X activation using brominated and non-brominated thiophene-based ligands. The ligands were combined with the much utilized platinum precursor, cis-[Pt2Me4(μ-SMe2)2] and through a variety of oxidative addition and/or reductive elimination reactions Pt(II) and Pt(IV) complexes were isolated. Compounds were characterized by multi-nuclear NMR spectroscopy. In several cases, diastereomeric mixtures of platinum(IV) compounds were observed. Thermolysis reactions of the Pt(IV) compounds resulted in new mixtures of platinum(II) products.
