Abstract

This second volume of Talks on Human Rights & the Arts, titled The Lawlessness of Rights, is brought together at a time of political despair and collective mourning. We are witnessing waves of censorship and intimidation within academic and artistic institutions imposed by state actors and funding bodies. It is particularly discouraging to see institutions, artists, and scholars who long presented themselves as aligned with decolonial thought succumb to both self-censorship and the silencing of others. Alternately, numerous artists and scholars defend the need to practice the politics they preach, particularly at a time of occupation, ethnic cleansing, and a climate catastrophe rapidly worsened by genocidal and imperialist wars.
