Abstract
My thesis examines the complex gender relations within the struggle for Black Liberation. I focus on black women and their roles within the many different movements that make up this struggle. I break down each movement and the time periods in which they occurred. The text explores people and movements with the Civil Rights Movement, Black Power Movement, and the #BlackLivesMatter Movement. Historical accounts from women such as Elaine Brown, and Angela Davis gives a depiction of the attitudes both men and women had around these times. With this thesis, I hope to emphasize how black women have been rendered invisible within these movements and shine light to stories and experiences that may not have been talked about as much.
