Abstract/Artist's Statement

This project is a translation of Sergio Pierattini’s play Il Ritorno. It includes an introduction that comments on the major themes of the play and how they relate to the social, economic, and cultural state of Italy today. The play includes issues such as racism, class divide, and the degeneration of familial tradition. The introduction also includes information from an interview conducted with the playwright as well as the process of translating the work. The play centers on a small family in northern Italy and the way in which the aforementioned issues have affected them. The play was published in 2008, and no other English translation currently exists.
